The Samantha Sung label was established in 2006, stemming from the founder's experience working with Hand-Batik in Bali while employed at Ralph Lauren. Collaborating with an Italian friend who ran a factory in Bali, they combined designs with traditional techniques, initially focusing on lightweight Musola fabric shirts. While vacationing in Bali, the founder sketched watercolor patterns at their friend's suggestion, leading to hand-developed Batik prints that became the signature of the brand. The Audrey Dress emerged from this collaboration and quickly became a best-seller, leading to a shift towards dresses over shirts. Today, the Audrey Dress remains popular, along with the Balinese Musola fabric and Batik prints, all inspired by hand-painted designs.
